Elisa Sullivan is the only vampire ever born, and she bears a heavy legacy. After a sojourn with the North American Central Pack of shifters in the wilderness—where she turned a young woman into a vampire to save her life—Elisa returns to Chicago.
But no good deed goes unpunished. The ruling body of vampires, the Assembly of American Masters, is furious that Elisa turned someone without their permission, and they want her punished. When an AAM vampire is found dead, Elisa is the prime suspect. Someone else is stalking Chicago—and Elisa. She'll need to keep a clear head, and a sharp blade, to survive all the supernatural strife.
Contains mature themes.

Suzanne Elise Freeman returns to narrate the third audiobook in the Heirs of Chicagoland series. Ella is suspect among some in the vampire community because was born of vampire parents (the main characters in the series), rather than made a vampire. Freeman enhances this likable, strong heroine. Conner, the hero, who is a werewolf, is portrayed as a solid leader and the heir-apparent Alpha. As Ella and Conner become more romantically involved, Freeman continues to present them as mutually supportive without sacrificing their independence or strength. Freeman also imbues the cadre of friends Ella relies upon with warmth and camaraderie that add extra dimension to their characters. J.E.M. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine
